The main lodge and gardens nestles at the base of the Eildon Hills. As you head up the driveway, which used to be the main road to the neighbouring village, the old garage sat at the end of the road to the rear of the garden.
To introduce a sense of place, the new garage was moved closer to the main lodge to unite the buildings. By repositioning the workshop, the design fosters a sense of unity and creates a sense of place, creating a cohesive focal point for the lodge, workshop and garden.
The existing materiality of the site is reflected in the new structure, which will in time, turn a silvery grey. The roof is constructed from eco sheet metal roofing in black, redefining the roofscape. Vertical black windows sit tall into the lengths of the cladding, framing views from the workshop back to the grounds.
